WHAT WE RACE AT PERTH SLOT CAR RACING
WHAT WE RACE AT PERTH SLOT CAR RACING
There are hundreds of different 1/32 scale slot cars available.
At Perth Slot Car Racing, we could try to race all of them.
But we deliberately don't.
QUALITY CARS. AVAILABLE PARTS. SIMPLE SETUPS. GREAT RACING.
Our racing is built mainly around three manufacturers:
CARRERA
NSR
REVOSLOT
We do race cars from other manufacturers as well, but these three make up the foundation of our regular racing program.
There is a reason for that.
We want cars that are good quality, enjoyable to race, supported by readily available parts and easy for new racers to understand.
Most importantly, we want people to be able to enter the hobby without feeling like they need to spend a fortune just to be competitive.
WHY THESE THREE MANUFACTURERS?
When we choose a racing class, we look at much more than how fast the car is.
We look at:
- Build quality
- Replacement parts availability
- Tyre availability
- Ease of setup
- Reliability
- Cost to the racer
- How easy it is for a new person to enter the class
- How good the racing actually is
WE DON'T JUST WANT FAST CARS. WE WANT GOOD RACING.
A class needs to work for the experienced racer, but it also needs to make sense for someone buying their first serious race car.
That balance is incredibly important to us.
NSR — LIGHT, FAST AND INCREDIBLY TECHNICAL
NSR represents the modern high-performance side of 1/32 scale slot car racing.
The cars generally use lightweight hard-plastic chassis components and are designed around outright performance.
They can be incredibly fast.
But underneath that speed is a huge amount of setup potential.
Depending on the class, adjustments can include:
- Tyres
- Gearing
- Motor configuration
- Suspension
- Body movement
- Guide setup
- Chassis setup
- Weight distribution
Different NSR classes can feel completely different to drive.
LIGHTWEIGHT. FAST. RESPONSIVE. TECHNICAL.
Perth Slot Car Racing has years of experience working with NSR cars and their newer generation of race platforms.
Our Perth NSR Championship has also developed into one of the major NSR racing events in Australia.
That experience means we don't just sell the cars.
We race them. We test them. We set them up. We learn from them.
REVOSLOT — SIMPLE, STRONG AND COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
RevoSlot cars offer a completely different driving experience.
They use a solid alloy chassis construction with ball bearings and a very different overall design philosophy compared with NSR.
They feel heavier.
They carry their weight differently.
They react differently.
And that is exactly why we enjoy racing them.
REVOSLOT IS ABOUT SIMPLE SETUP, DURABILITY AND CLOSE RACING.
Many of our RevoSlot classes are deliberately kept close to stock specification.
That reduces unnecessary spending and keeps the emphasis on driving, preparation and consistency.
The cars are durable, beautifully engineered and can produce incredibly close racing.
CARRERA — ACCESSIBLE AND FUN
Carrera plays an important role in our racing program because it provides a great entry point into the hobby.
The cars are widely recognised, durable and easy to understand.
We use Carrera classes where simple modifications can turn an accessible road car into an enjoyable race car without completely rebuilding it.
Classes such as Carrera GT3 and Carrera NASCAR give racers something affordable, familiar and fun.
YOU DON'T NEED THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAR TO HAVE GREAT RACING.
THE CLASSES WE RACE
There are more than a dozen different categories we could race at Perth Slot Car Racing.
But racing every possible class would make the hobby expensive, complicated and difficult for people to keep up with.
Instead, we run a focused calendar and rotate selected classes throughout the year.
Some of the main classes raced at Perth Slot Car Racing include:
NSR HYPERCAR
Modern prototype-style performance with fast, technical racing.
NSR GT3
One of our core racing classes and a great balance of speed and setup.
NSR FORMULA F22/26
Modern Formula-style racing — extremely fast, precise and challenging.
NSR FORMULA 86/89
Classic Formula racing with its own completely different driving style.
NSR LE MANS CLASSIC
Fast classic sports cars with close racing and plenty of setup potential.
REVOSLOT GROUP 2 CLASSIC
Classic touring-style racing using the unique RevoSlot alloy chassis platform.
REVOSLOT GT1
Powerful GT racing with weight, momentum and a completely different feel.
REVOSLOT GT2
Close, durable and straightforward racing built around a controlled specification.
CARRERA NASCAR
Big-bodied stock car racing that looks great and creates plenty of fun.
CARRERA GT3
Accessible GT racing and an excellent introduction to competitive slot cars.
EVERY CLASS DRIVES DIFFERENTLY
That variety is one of the best things about racing at Perth Slot Car Racing.
An NSR Formula car does not drive like a RevoSlot GT car.
A RevoSlot does not behave like a Carrera.
A Hypercar does not feel like a Le Mans Classic.
Each class has:
- Different speed
- Different weight
- Different braking behaviour
- Different cornering characteristics
- Different setup requirements
- Different gearing options
- Different driving techniques
CHANGE THE CLASS AND YOU CHANGE THE RACE.
That keeps the calendar interesting and forces drivers to continue learning.
THE RULES CREATE THE RACING
Our class rules are designed to keep each category interesting without turning every car into an unlimited spending competition.
Depending on the class, rules may control:
- Motor choice
- Gearing
- Tyres
- Guide choice
- Suspension
- Chassis components
- Weight
- Body movement
Some classes allow more adjustment.
Others are deliberately kept almost completely stock.
That means racers get to experience both ends of the hobby.
You can enjoy a simple controlled class one week and then race a highly technical setup class the next.
WE DON'T WANT RACING TO BREAK THE BANK
Motorsport hobbies can become expensive very quickly.
Slot car racing is no different if you allow spending to become the main way of finding performance.
That isn't what we want.
YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SPEND A FORTUNE TO WIN A RACE.
At one of our biggest championship events, a Day 1 winner competed using a controller worth around $250.
You do not need the most expensive controller in the building.
You do not need a box full of exotic parts.
And you do not need to completely rebuild a car just to have a chance.
A well-prepared car, a sensible setup and good driving can take you a very long way.
That is exactly how we want it.
MAKE THE CAR YOUR OWN
That doesn't mean you can't customise your cars.
Quite the opposite.
For many racers, building and modifying the car is part of the fun.
Depending on the class rules, racers can experiment with components, setup, tyres and appearance.
Cars can be detailed, painted and personalised.
The important thing is that the performance rules remain controlled enough to keep the racing fair and accessible.
WE LEARN TOGETHER
One of the biggest advantages of focusing on a smaller group of manufacturers is knowledge.
Our racers learn what works.
We compare setups.
We test parts.
We experiment with gearing.
We learn what different tyres and configurations do on our track.
And that information gets shared.
LEARN. TEST. SHARE. GET BETTER.
We also pass our experiences and findings back through suppliers and manufacturers where appropriate.
That means the knowledge developed through racing doesn't simply stay with one person.
The entire group improves.
YEARS OF 1/32 SCALE EXPERIENCE
The team at Perth Slot Car Racing has years of experience working with 1/32 scale slot cars.
That includes traditional platforms as well as the newer generation of performance cars from manufacturers such as NSR and RevoSlot.
We understand that buying the car is only the beginning.
People also need:
- Parts
- Setup advice
- Tyres
- Technical support
- Rules they can understand
- A place to actually race the car
That is why the cars we race are the cars we are prepared to support.
IF WE RACE IT, WE WANT TO UNDERSTAND IT AND BE ABLE TO HELP YOU WITH IT.
DIFFERENT CARS. DIFFERENT CHALLENGES. SAME COMMUNITY.
That is what makes our racing calendar so enjoyable.
One class might reward smooth driving.
Another might reward bravery.
Another might require more technical setup.
Another might be almost completely stock and come down to pure consistency.
Every class teaches you something different.
And everyone is learning together.
THREE CORE MANUFACTURERS. MULTIPLE CLASSES. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RACING.
Quality cars, sensible rules and racing that stays fun.
